As a highly qualified geologist, Iftikhar Gasimov has been engaged in the oil and gas industry for more than 20 years and during this time he has contributed to the success of the team led by him in numerous projects and the company he works for with his specific knowledge, including leadership skills.

Mr. Gasimov started his career at SOCAR, as a Geologist conducting geological exploration works in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, including drilling oil and gas wells, as an Engineering  Geologist on joint projects with companies such as JAOC, TECHNIP, BP, DRACON-OIL, LUKOIL in the Russian, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan sectors of the Caspian Sea, as a Supervising Geologist on the “North Karaturun” project of Buzachi Oil Company.

Since 2008, he has worked as an Engineering  Geologist at SOCAR AQS, since 2011 as the Head of the Geological Department/Chief Geologist, and since 2013 as the Deputy General Director/Chief Geologist. The most important projects he participated in were designing and drilling horizontal wells for the first time in “Guneshli” and “West Absheron” fields, completing horizontal wells with sand filters in the open hole, designing, drilling and completing a multilateral well for the first time in the South Caspian basin, in the West Absheron field, drilling of a 6810 m deep well in the high pressure/high temperature “Umid” gas-condensate field by fully opening the VII horizon, XPT and Vertical Seismic Profiling (VSP) on all productive horizons in “Umid” and “Bulla-Deniz” fields, measurement of reservoir pressures on productive horizons, including rock sampling, planning and implementation of geological and geophysical surveys.

He has attended numerous trainings, Scientific and Technological conferences held at international and local levels, such as “Estimation of Formation Pressures” by STAG Geological Services, UK, “Leadership” by International Human Resources Development Corporation, “Minimization formation damage with selective reservoir solutions” by Halliburton, “Fundamentals of drill bits” by National Oilwell Varco and “Well planning” by Drilling Training Alliance.

Mr. Gasimov was awarded the Certificate of Honor "For his special merits to the development of the oil and gas industry" by the president of SOCAR, and the Certificate of Honor "For his valuable merits to the development of the company and being an exemplary employee" by SOCAR AQS.

Mr. Gasimov has a postgraduate degree in Geology, Research, and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields from the Institute of Geology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, a master's degree in Exploration of Offshore Oil Fields from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, and a bachelor degree in Geology of Oil Fields.

Currently, he is the Director of Geology and Subsurface Operations/Chief Geologist at SOCAR AQS.
