SOCAR AQS increases well delivery efficiency through advanced software
SOCAR AQS is applying digital solutions that allows the business to manage well design and operations in a safe and the most effective way.
Our company has purchased the top three software – StressCheck, OpenWells, WellPlan (Landmark Solutions by Halliburton) – used in drilling operations across the world.
Let’s dive in and see what advantages each of the software offers.
StressCheck –this software is used in the initial stage of well design, more specifically, to perform tubular design using the optimum casing, liner and tubing strings for well construction.
It is usually used during planning the well, before starting any drilling activity to check all expected drilling and production loads on casing string to ensure all casing strings can withstand loads, and will not fail within drilling or production phases. The software features graphical design tools and algorithms that automatically generate minimum-cost solutions along with fit for purpose casing string.
It is worth to mention that StressCheck is not only used in the well design phase, but also commonly utilised during the drilling phase to quickly check loads for any possible deviation from design loads.
Notably, the software has proven to offer quick, systematic and accurate checks of different load cases in a short period of time.
OpenWells –the software is used by drilling engineers to efficiently manage and optimise drilling operations that requires an information management system to capture, track, report, and analyse all activities at the rig.
OpenWells has the capacity to manage and track drilling and completion activities for a number of wells simultaneously. It simplifies data collection and streamlines reporting and analysis by reducing time spent on manual and repetitive work tasks.
It is a reliable and widely used application by major petroleum companies, as it offers easy data entry and illustrating each well activities on simple, easily readable forms. All these features allow the software substantially saves time spent on data management.
WellPlan – it is broadly used software to optimise designing complex well string operations which require rigorous analysis to define the key aspects of each pipe-related operation in the wellbore.
This software is applied to perform torque and drag, hydraulic and well control related simulations. WellPlan is an effective tool for designing and optimising drill string concerning weight, tension limits, as well as for predicting the level of pressure to be expected nearly for all operations.
StressCheck and WellPlan are used by office drilling engineers, while OpenWells is used by offshore drilling engineers to share the daily activities with the head office.
“Our drilling engineers are using these software for simulating the possible well loads and choosing the right equipment for successful well construction. This not only saves time, cost and also reduces the well delivery risk, increasing the safety, reliability and efficiency of our operations”, says Apparao Cherukuri, Director Drilling Engineering, SOCAR AQS.
